Case Study: Project: Create an Interactive Showcase concept for Watson Lab AI researchers in Austin, TX.
*This project turned out so well that it was implemented and installed in IBM's Manhattan, NY location known as Astor Place.
Brief: The Big Idea: Create an experiential showcase concept for lab researchers, to provide an interactive and immersive platform for demonstrating their cutting edge technologies with an emphasis on education of how Watson’s AI works. Strategic Goal: Blend futuristic aesthetic, cognitive, cinematic, 3D and 'Wow! factor.” Target Hardware: 80” touch screen. Target Audience: Internal IBM personnel, potential partners, school field trips. Deliverable: Visual treatment of a single screen UI design with annotations.
Use Case Scenario: • Primary Users: Lab AI Researchers and IBM Tour Guides. • Content: Research from current Watson Labs project.


The holograms of the future will have tangible form and tactile quality. This implementation will leverage natural hand mechanics and offer a more immersive and engaging experience with content, allowing for active participation in the education and learning process. Dynamic holographs could also respond to vocal commands and feature integrated AI and machine learning. Whether demonstrated in a research lab, operating room or enjoyed in our own living rooms, the valuable application possibilities are limitless.

Tour guide is operating the 80” MultiTaction screen, showcasing an overview of the Watson prototype for the Glioblastoma project. The vertical touch screen experience is one of three views and interaction methods available. The other options include the ability to orient the screen horizontally, allowing projection of a holographic display or to leverage the MultiTaction Enriched Reality technology which recognizes objects, smart devices, QR codes, objects and styli for a collaborative, engaging experience.
